RICHARD PARK AND SHOCKING CHILD GROOMING AND RAPE IN NEWCASTLE AND NORTH TYNESIDE
A man accused of grooming and sexually abusing a teenage girl has been sentenced to a significant prison term after her courageous decision to come forward and report her ordeal to the police.Richard Park, aged 45, became the subject of a criminal investigation after he engaged in a series of inappropriate communications and an assault involving a 15-year-old girl.
The investigation revealed that Park had been contacting the young girl via social media platforms, establishing a pattern of communication that lasted for some time before he finally met her in person.
The meeting took place in January 2020 within the North Tyneside area, where Park arranged to meet the teenager.
During this encounter, while sitting in his car, he forced her to perform a sexual act on him.
This disturbing incident marked a moment of trauma for the young victim, who later found the strength to report the assault to authorities.
Once the victim contacted the police and provided details of her experience, law enforcement officers launched a comprehensive investigation.
During this process, the young girl shared numerous messages that Park had sent her, which played a crucial role in building the case.
Park was arrested and brought into custody.
Following his arrest, he maintained a denial of the physical contact, claiming he had not engaged directly in the sexual act.
Despite his denials, legal proceedings moved forward.
Park was formally charged with multiple offenses, including the rape of a girl under 16, engaging in sexual communications with a child, and child grooming.
He admitted to the latter two charges but pleaded not guilty to the rape accusation.
The case was brought before Newcastle Crown Court, where the evidence presented and the jury's deliberation led to a conviction for rape.
On May 10, at Newcastle Crown Court, Richard Park was sentenced to nine years in prison for his crimes.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his future behavior and monitoring.
Furthermore, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the next decade.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Karen Douglas of Northumbria Police expressed her relief and commendation for the victim's bravery.
She stated, “Park’s victim showed immense courage in coming forward to report the abuse he had put her through, and we hope that his conviction helps to provide a degree of closure, enabling her to move on with her life.” Det.
Constable Douglas also highlighted the importance of cooperation from the victim and her family, which was instrumental in securing the conviction.
She emphasized the reprehensibility of Park’s actions, noting, “Park knew his victim was underage and yet still he chose to pursue a sexual relationship with her.
That is abhorrent.
Not only did he groom and rape his victim, but he also put her through the trauma of a trial when he pleaded not guilty to the rape offence.
Fortunately, the jury saw through his lies, and he is now beginning a lengthy period behind bars.”
