RICHARD MOONEY'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MANCHESTER AND STOKE-ON-TRENT: VILE ATTACKS AND SEXUAL ABUSE REVEALED

In August 2016, a disturbing case involving Richard John Luke Mooney, aged 33, unfolded in the courts, revealing a series of heinous crimes committed across Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent. Mooney, a man with a history of violence and sexual offenses, was found guilty of attacking his partner and sexually abusing a young child, leading to a significant prison sentence.

According to court records, Mooney had initially gained the trust of a vulnerable woman and her five-year-old son in 2014. Over time, his relationship with the woman appeared to be relatively normal, but beneath this facade, he was harboring violent and predatory tendencies. Several months after establishing this trust, Mooney violently assaulted the woman, inflicting multiple injuries including bruises, cuts, and even broken ribs. The assault was severe enough that the police were called to intervene. Mooney was promptly removed from the property and charged with a breach of the peace. Despite the seriousness of the incident, he was released on unconditional bail, which allowed him to remain free pending further legal proceedings.

However, just two weeks later, authorities re-arrested Mooney at Manchester coach station. He was held in custody until his court appearance, after which he was bailed to an address in Stoke-on-Trent. The case took a darker turn in February 2015 when Mooney was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting his ex-partner’s five-year-old son. The court remanded him into custody until his next hearing, reflecting the gravity of the allegations.

While incarcerated at Lancaster Farms, a Category C prison, Mooney managed to obtain a mobile phone through a family member also serving time. Using this device, he engaged in threatening and abusive calls aimed at his ex-partner, attempting to intimidate her and exert control despite being behind bars. This breach of prison rules further complicated his legal situation.

In May 2015, Mooney appeared in court and was sentenced to 40 months in prison for the assault on his ex-partner. The judge informed him that he would serve half of this sentence before being eligible for release. Despite this, the criminal proceedings against him continued, and in December 2015, he was formally charged with the child sexual abuse offense while still in Lancaster Farms. Subsequently, he was transferred to HMP Manchester, formerly known as Strangeways, for his court hearings.

During the trial, Mooney entered a last-minute guilty plea, ostensibly in an attempt to secure a more lenient sentence. However, he maintained his innocence publicly, refusing to accept responsibility for the crimes. The court ordered him to complete courses related to sexual offenses, but he flatly refused, stating, “I will not jump through hoops, admitting guilt to something I hadn’t done, courses etc, just to get parole.” His refusal to participate in rehabilitation programs was noted by the judge.

Ultimately, in August 2016, the court sentenced Mooney to an extended determinate sentence of five years, with an additional five-year extended license period. The sentence reflected the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing supervision upon release.

Mooney is approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a distinctive strong Mancunian accent. He is known to frequent areas in Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent. Physical features include a long scar on one cheek and several self-harming scars on his forearms, which are visible signs of his troubled history.
