RICHARD LANGHOR FROM CHADDESDEN CONVICTED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN DERBY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Chaddesden and the wider Derby area, Richard Langhor, a bus driver employed by Trent Barton, was found guilty of possessing and downloading a significant number of illegal images depicting child abuse. The investigation revealed that over a span of six years, Langhor had accumulated more than 5,000 pornographic images and videos involving minors, raising serious concerns about his conduct and the safety of children.Authorities traced the illegal material back to a computer located at Langhor's residence on Morley Road in Chaddesden. The police discovered that the device had accessed a website hosting child abuse content, which led to further scrutiny of his digital activities. The images found ranged predominantly in the category one classification, which involves less graphic material, but also included six images and videos classified as category four, indicating highly explicit and severe content, with the most extreme being category five.
During the court proceedings, Judge Andrew Hamilton described the nature of the images, stating, "The images are of naked girls—some of which involve children being abused by adults." The judge expressed his revulsion at the content, remarking, "You are indulging your own sexual perversions in watching children that have been abused by adults." He further questioned how anyone could derive sexual pleasure from such material, emphasizing the gravity of the offense.
Initially, Langhor denied deliberately downloading any of the illegal images. However, during the trial, he admitted to 16 counts of making indecent photographs and movies, with the offenses spanning from May 2004 to April 2010. The police search of his home in April 2004 uncovered a program designed to delete hidden information, along with indecent images stored across three different types of computer equipment, indicating an attempt to conceal his activities.
In mitigation, Justine Robinson, representing Langhor, stated that her client was seeking help for his problem. She explained, "He has been fully candid with the probation service and he has told his partner. He recognizes he has a problem and he has not sought to minimise his offending." Robinson added that Langhor was committed to making changes in his life and addressing his behavior.
Judge Hamilton sentenced Langhor to a three-year community order with supervision, emphasizing that this was the most suitable punishment to prevent further offending. The judge declared, "I am determined that you do not continue with this abuse." As part of his sentence, Langhor is required to attend a specialized program for internet sex offenders and must register as a sex offender for five years. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and is prohibited from working with children.
Furthermore, Langhor was issued a sex offences prevention order, which bans him from possessing any software capable of deleting computer history. He is also mandated to allow police officers access to his home at any time to inspect his computers, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his digital activities.
Following the sentencing, a spokesperson for Trent Barton confirmed that Langhor has not driven for the company since the allegations surfaced. The company clarified that he has not been involved in driving school buses, indicating a separation from any role that could potentially involve children or vulnerable individuals.
