RICHARD FOOTE FROM LEEDS JAILED FOR GROOMING TEEN ON SOCIAL NETWORK IN GWENT
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming, Richard Foote, a 25-year-old man from Leeds, has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison after he exploited a 14-year-old girl from Gwent through social media platforms. The incident unfolded when Foote created a false online profile, falsely claiming to be 16 years old, in order to establish a connection with the young girl.
According to court reports, Foote used this fabricated identity to gain the girl’s trust and sympathy.
He pretended to have health issues, specifically claiming to suffer from heart problems, which appeared to evoke her concern and affection.
Over time, this manipulation led the girl to become emotionally attached to him, making her more susceptible to his advances.
The court heard that the abuse escalated when Foote arranged to meet the girl in person at a cinema.
During this meeting, he assaulted her, an act that has left a lasting impact on the victim’s life.
The case was brought to light during the trial, revealing the extent of Foote’s malicious intent.
Further investigations uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images stored on Foote’s computer.
Authorities found 97 such images, including a particularly heinous video classified as “sadist” level 5, depicting a girl aged three or four being raped while restrained.
This evidence underscores the severity of his criminal behavior.
Police also discovered numerous profiles of teenage girls on his computer, indicating that Foote had been actively engaging with multiple minors online.
The crown prosecutor, Ruth Smith, confirmed that detectives had identified contact between Foote and at least two other girls aged 14 and 15 through the social networking site.
Richard Foote, of Carrholm Drive, Leeds, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual grooming, two counts of sexual activity with a child, and 16 counts of making indecent images of a child.
His guilty plea reflects the gravity of his offenses.
During the sentencing hearing, defense lawyer Brian Kennedy acknowledged that Foote had “dwelt in a very dark place” but expressed hope that he understood the wrongs he committed and was committed to turning his life around.
Despite this, the judge, Tom Crowther, imposed a substantial sentence.
Foote was sentenced to 16 months for each of the grooming charges, two and a half years for the sexual activity with a child, and 40 months for the possession of indecent images, with some sentences to run concurrently.
The 40-month sentence will be served consecutively, resulting in a total of 46 months in custody.
He is also required to serve half of this time before being eligible for release on license.
Additionally, the court issued a lifelong order preventing Foote from having unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16, aiming to protect other potential victims from similar harm in the future.
