RICHARD DOBINSON'S BRUTAL CRIME SPREE IN LEEDS AND WEST YORKSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local community, Richard Dobinson, a 37-year-old man from Leeds, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison following a series of violent and disturbing incidents involving his former partner and her pet dog.According to court proceedings, Dobinson had been involved in a tumultuous relationship with the woman since 2021.
Their relationship began in Cumbria, but it was during a visit to West Yorkshire, specifically near Workington, that the first violent episode took place on May 1, 2022.
During a heated argument, Dobinson physically assaulted the woman by grabbing her neck and forcefully throwing her across a room.
This assault resulted in visible bruising on her hip and caused her to experience difficulty breathing, highlighting the severity of the attack.
The violence did not end there.
In July of the same year, while the woman was resting at her residence near Workington, Dobinson, who was intoxicated, launched another assault.
He jumped onto her bed, dragged her to the floor, and began strangling her in a manner that left her unable to breathe.
The attack escalated further when, after she managed to get to her feet and moved to the living room, Dobinson turned her around and delivered a headbutt.
This blow caused bleeding and a cut to her nose.
Prosecutor Tim Evans stated that the woman wanted to seek medical treatment for her injuries, but Dobinson refused to allow her to do so.
The final incident occurred on August 15, 2022.
On that night, Dobinson, who was again under the influence of alcohol, made a threatening remark about burying the woman in her garden.
The situation worsened when he kicked her dog in the stomach, causing the animal to yelp in pain.
Dobinson then picked up the dog by its shoulders and forcefully threw it onto the concrete floor.
The following day, the woman noticed that Dobinson’s injuries had worsened, with two of his front teeth and the attached gum splitting away from the rest of his mouth, indicating a violent altercation.
Dobinson admitted to multiple charges, including common assault, actual bodily harm, strangulation, and animal cruelty.
The court also noted that he had a history of temper-related convictions, which contributed to the severity of his sentencing.
Judge Guy Mathieson sentenced Dobinson to 30 months in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order, prohibiting him from having any contact with the woman moving forward.
This case underscores the ongoing issues of domestic violence and animal cruelty within the Leeds area and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such violent behavior.
