REECE ELLIS FROM SHEFFIELD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In March 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Reece Ellis, a man from Sheffield, who engaged in inappropriate and illegal conduct with a teenage girl. The incident highlights the serious issues surrounding grooming, coercion, and the exploitation of minors within the community.Reece Ellis, who was 22 years old at the time, first established contact with the girl through social media platforms in 2016. The girl, then only 15 years old, revealed that Ellis was in Year 10, and their online interactions quickly took a troubling turn. During their conversations, Ellis explicitly warned her to keep their relationship secret, emphasizing the importance of confidentiality. Prosecutor Richard Sheldon detailed that the girl was advised not to visit Ellis’s home to avoid being seen in public together, but she refused to comply with this request. Instead, she continued to see him, despite the warnings.
At one point, Ellis reportedly begged the girl to engage in sexual activity with him, telling her, “Just pray I don’t get sent down for sleeping with you.” This statement underscores the coercive nature of their relationship and the manipulative tactics Ellis employed. The court heard that Ellis had sex with the girl on four separate occasions. Despite his arrest in October 2017, Ellis chose to give a no-comment interview to police, refusing to answer questions about his actions.
It was also revealed that Ellis had a prior conviction for a driving offence in January 2017. Remarkably, he maintained contact with the girl while in prison, and their relationship resumed upon his release in April of the same year. The court acknowledged that while the girl claimed her consent was voluntary, she admitted to being persuaded initially, and there was evidence of grooming behavior used by Ellis to manipulate her.
The victim, now 18, provided a heartfelt statement describing the profound impact of the ordeal. She expressed regret over her past innocence being lost and shared her ongoing fears about future relationships. She also revealed that her GCSE results were negatively affected due to the anxiety caused by her experiences with Ellis. Her words reflected the emotional and psychological toll of the abuse she endured.
Reece Ellis pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child. In sentencing, Judge David Dixon imposed a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with an 18-month community order. As part of his rehabilitation, Ellis was ordered to attend a sex offenders’ program and complete 15 sessions aimed at behavioral change. Additionally, he was required to perform 100 hours of unpaid work. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also issued, prohibiting him from having any contact with the girl for life and forbidding any deliberate, unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, reflecting the court’s commitment to protecting minors from future harm.
