DWAYNE KAID SENTENCED IN SHEFFIELD FOR STALKING AND BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER

Dwayne Kaid, a 44-year-old resident of Sheffield, was found guilty of engaging in a pattern of stalking behavior that instilled fear of violence and involved physical assault against his former partner.

The relationship between Kaid and the complainant had been tumultuous, beginning in 2015 with an on-and-off dynamic that eventually rekindled in September 2021.

This renewed relationship persisted until January 2023, during which time the victim endured ongoing harassment and intimidation from Kaid.

On October 16, 2023, Kaid was formally sentenced to serve eight months in prison for his actions.

In addition to his incarceration, the court imposed a stringent three-year restraining order, explicitly prohibiting him from making any contact with the woman.

Despite these legal restrictions, Kaid demonstrated a blatant disregard for the court’s orders.

Merely weeks after his release from prison, on December 24, 2023, he sent a disturbing Christmas greeting via email from the website 123cards.com.

The message read, “Merry Christmas to you all,” and was accompanied by a sad-faced emoji, a gesture that caused significant alarm.

Authorities quickly linked the email account and IP address used to send the message back to Kaid, who resides on Norfolk Park Road in Sheffield.

Prosecutor Katherine White explained that the email heightened the victim’s anxiety, stating, “It put her on edge and made her anxiety very high to the point she didn’t want to go outside and was scared he would find out where she was living and he would cause harm to her.” During court proceedings, Kaid initially denied sending the Christmas card but later admitted to breaching the restraining order.

He claimed that his intention was simply to show “no hard feelings,” a justification that failed to mitigate the seriousness of his actions.

The court was also informed that Kaid has a lengthy criminal history, with 30 previous convictions spanning 87 offences, underscoring a pattern of criminal behavior.

In light of these facts, Judge Dixon sentenced Kaid to a two-year community order.

This included 50 days of rehabilitation activities and 150 hours of unpaid work.

Additionally, Kaid was ordered to pay £400 in court costs within six months.

The restraining order was extended to a full ten years, reflecting the court’s concern over the ongoing risk he posed to the victim.

Judge Dixon emphasized the gravity of the stalking behavior, stating, “The complainant was stalked by you in the past and as a result, Derby Crown Court thought it right to impose an order stopping you having any contact with her.” The deliberate breach of the restraining order by sending the Christmas card was viewed as a serious escalation, causing the victim considerable distress and fear.

Prosecutor Katherine White highlighted the emotional toll on the victim, noting, “It made her very anxious, to the point she didn’t want to go outside, fearing he would discover her location and harm her.”
