REBECCA BOOTH CONVICTED OF CRUELTY IN LISKEARD

Rebecca Booth, also known as Rebecca McCarrick and born on January 22, 1990, who resides on Melbourne Road, Liskeard PL14 4JF, was found guilty in 2020 of abusing her dog. Despite this conviction, she was not prohibited from owning animals.

Booth, a known enthusiast of bloodsports, denied allegations that she caused blunt force trauma and inflicted physical violence on her Belgian Malinois, named Chase. However, magistrates convicted her of cruelty related to the incident.

The court was informed that the offense occurred at Menheniot Playing Fields in April 2019 and involved actions that would have caused the dog unnecessary suffering.

An application was made by the RSPCA to disqualify Booth from owning dogs, based on fears she might repeat such behavior in the future.

During proceedings, it was suggested that Booth apparently enjoys killing animals for entertainment. Nonetheless, the court noted that the incident was considered a 'one-off' and highlighted her skills in training dogs, emphasizing her use of Chase as a working dog.

The court also heard that Booth relies on Chase for security and other work, stating, "Chase is key to her livelihood. For her to be able to work in the future, Miss Booth needs Chase."

The bond between Booth and her dog was also discussed during the hearing.

As for sentencing, Booth received a community order along with a six-week curfew, and was ordered to pay a total of £1,335. She was not banned from keeping animals.
