RAYMOND PERRY SHOCKS BRADWELL WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGE SCANDAL IN STOKE-ON-TRENT

In August 2020, the quiet community of Bradwell was rocked by revelations involving Raymond Perry, a 69-year-old resident whose actions have sparked widespread condemnation. Perry was found to have systematically searched for and downloaded a significant number of indecent images depicting children, raising serious concerns about his conduct and the safety of the community.

Police officers attended Perry’s residence in Bradwell on January 4, 2018, after reports emerged about his suspicious online activity. During the investigation, authorities seized his computer and discovered a disturbing collection of illicit material. Perry initially attempted to dismiss the images as mere 'pop-ups' that appeared unexpectedly, claiming he was disgusted by them. However, as the investigation progressed, he eventually admitted to actively downloading the images, acknowledging his involvement in the illegal activity.

The police findings revealed a total of 69 indecent images of children stored on Perry’s computer. These included seven still images and 29 videos classified as Category A, which is designated for the most severe material. Additionally, there were nine still images and six videos categorized as Category B, and 15 still images along with three videos falling under Category C, the least severe classification. An analysis of Perry’s computer showed no evidence of random pop-ups; instead, it indicated a deliberate and systematic search for pornographic content involving minors.

Prosecutor Timothy Harrington outlined the extent of Perry’s actions during the court proceedings, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the evidence. Perry, who resides on Bradwell Lane in Bradwell, has no prior criminal record. He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children. The court heard that Perry’s family, including his wife and daughter, had observed his frequent and prolonged use of his computer, raising concerns about his online activities and his fixation on indecent images of children.

In sentencing, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court imposed a two-year community order on Perry. The order includes a 35-day rehabilitation activity requirement aimed at addressing his behavior. Furthermore, Perry is subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the same duration. As part of the court’s ruling, Perry is also required to pay costs amounting to £1,200, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the community’s need for justice and protection.
