A man named Raymond Paternoster of Old Durham Road, Gateshead, was sentenced to a total of 10 and a half years in jail after being convicted of four counts of rape and three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm.
The offenses occurred last November, with the court hearing from a victim impact statement that described severe physical injuries including fractures to her face, as well as emotional trauma such as nightmares, fear, and loss of sleep.
The victim expressed support for the police and noted that while she is coping better over time, some psychological scars will remain.
Paternoster was sentenced on September 26 at Newcastle Crown Court and will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Detective Constable Paul Challoner from the Rape Investigation Team praised the victim’s bravery and emphasized the police’s commitment to justice and victim support.
