April 2013 Aged 75, and still a danger to children A paedophile has been jailed for 10 years after a judge said even though aged 75 he is still a danger to children. Leeds Crown Court heard that following a previous conviction in 2005, Raymond Jones was barred under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order from having under 16s in his home. But last June two girls, aged 13, and a boy of 12 were seen running out of the house in The Green, Airedale, Castleford, by a concerned witness who notified the police. Jones was wearing only boxer shorts and a string vest and tried to grab the arm of the boy as he went but he shrugged free. Philip Adams prosecuting told the court when the youngsters were spoken to they said Jones had “got his bits out”. He also made suggestive comments while they watched a pornographic film. Jones denied any sexual activity and claimed a boy asked him for a cigarette and it was that boy who answered a knock on the door and let the girls in. Jones was bailed but in December let two more boys into his house. Once in the house Jones pulled that boy’s trousers down and began to touch him sexually. He only stopped when the mother of the other boy and some people with her began knocking on the door looking for her son. Christopher Morton representing Jones said it was only when he heard the women outside calling him a paedophile that “for the first time he realised he probably was”. Jones was jailed for 10 years with an extended five years on licence after his release. He admitted three offences of causing a child to watch a sexual act; three of inciting sexual activity, three of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child; two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and breaching a sexual offences prevention order. Sentencing him Judge James Spencer QC said whether children were precocious in their behaviour or not the law was there to protect them. He said the pattern of Jones’s offending established “beyond measure you are a danger to young children”.
