RAY TREWERN JAILED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BIRMINGHAM
A disturbing case involving a child sex offender has culminated in the imprisonment of Ray Trewern, a resident of Birmingham, following his heinous actions towards a young girl.The police investigation was initiated based on concerns about Trewern’s conduct, even before any formal complaint was lodged by the victim herself.
According to reports, Trewern, aged 35 and living in Park Corner, Birmingham, engaged in online communication with a 12-year-old girl.
The interactions quickly escalated as he arranged to meet her in person, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of grooming behavior.
During their meetings, Trewern bought the girl gifts and took her shopping, actions that appeared to be aimed at building trust and manipulating her.
The situation took a more sinister turn when, during one of their encounters, Trewern sexually assaulted the girl by kissing her.
West Mercia Police revealed that their decision to investigate was driven by a high level of concern about Trewern’s actions, leading them to pursue an evidence-led investigation rather than waiting for a formal complaint from the victim.
This proactive approach underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement treated the case.
On May 16, at Worcester Crown Court, Trewern pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including engaging in sexual communications with a child, meeting a female child under 16 following sexual grooming, sexually assaulting a girl under 13, and possessing indecent photographs of a child.
The court sentenced him to two years and three months in prison.
Additionally, Trewern was subjected to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim and prevent further offenses.
The grooming of the girl took place between October and December 2021, a period during which Trewern’s manipulative behavior persisted.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Tarryn Schimmel emphasized the gravity of Trewern’s actions, stating, “Trewern’s grooming was such that his victim genuinely believed he had her best intentions at heart when in fact his deception was for his own perverse gain.” She also acknowledged the patience and dignity of the victim and her family, who endured a long wait for justice.
“The victim and her family have had to wait a long time to see justice being done, and I commend them for their patience and dignity in waiting for this matter to finally be resolved.
I hope the sentence helps put some closure on this awful time for them,” she added, highlighting the importance of justice in cases of child exploitation and abuse.
