RAJA KHAN AND ADEEB SULTAN SENTENCED IN BIRMINGHAM FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Birmingham community, two men, Raja Khan and Adeeb Sultan, have been sentenced to a combined total of 15 years in prison for their heinous crimes involving a 14-year-old girl.The incident, which spanned over five days, involved a series of brutal assaults, exploitation, and abuse, highlighting the depths of depravity these offenders reached.
Raja Khan, aged 23 and a resident of Sparkbrook, Birmingham, was convicted of raping the young girl and inflicting actual bodily harm during the ordeal.
His accomplice, Adeeb Sultan, aged 27 from Alum Rock, Birmingham, was found guilty of multiple sexual offenses involving the same victim, including two counts of sexual activity with a child and inciting or causing sexual activity with a minor.
Sultan also played a role in passing the girl to another man, who subsequently sexually assaulted her.
The court heard that Sultan, who went by the nickname 'Dibbs,' targeted the girl after spotting her walking with a friend in July 2011.
According to police reports, Sultan approached the teenagers and offered them the chance to hang out with him and his friends.
The girls accepted and joined him, during which they consumed vodka on a canal towpath near Dudderston Mill Road.
Over the course of the next five days, Sultan continued to supply the girl with alcohol and drugs, creating a vulnerable environment for the subsequent assaults.
During this period, Khan subjected the girl to rape, and she was also abused by other unidentified men.
One particularly violent incident involved Khan punching her in the face and threatening that if she refused to have sex, her friend would be raped instead.
Despite suffering severe injuries, the girl managed to escape her captors.
A passing motorist found her and took her to Stechford police station, where she received medical treatment and was able to identify Khan as her attacker.
CCTV footage from the area at the time of the attack on July 10, 2011, further confirmed his involvement.
In interviews, Khan claimed he was at home, on the phone with his girlfriend, watching television, and playing on his PlayStation during the time of the assaults.
However, these claims were dismissed by the jury after DNA evidence linking Sultan to the victim was presented in court.
Detective Constable Amy Bates from the West Midlands Police Public Protection Department emphasized the severity of the crimes, describing them as 'truly despicable.' She highlighted the calculated targeting of a vulnerable young girl for sexual exploitation and the profound impact on her.
DC Bates praised the victim's bravery, noting her courage in reporting the crimes, providing detailed evidence, and participating in identification procedures despite her trauma.
She expressed her hope for her ongoing recovery and commended her strength of character at such a young age.
As part of their sentences, Sultan was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subjected to a ten-year Sex Offenders Prevention Order, which restricts contact with girls under 16 and disqualifies him from working with children.
Khan received a lifetime registration requirement and was also subjected to a ten-year Sex Offenders Prevention Order.
Both men were disqualified from employment involving children, underscoring the seriousness of their offenses and the community's efforts to prevent future harm.
