PIOTR BOCZEK FROM DARLINGTON JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER IN TEESSIDE

In March 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Piotr Boczek, a quarry worker from Darlington, who was convicted of serious sexual offenses against children and violent conduct towards law enforcement officers.

The incidents took place in the Teesside area, and the case drew significant attention due to the severity of the crimes and the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

According to court proceedings, Boczek, aged 45, had a history of heavy alcohol consumption, which appeared to influence his behavior during the incidents.

The first offense involved an attempt to kiss a young child, which was thwarted when the child instinctively moved away.

Following this, Boczek made a distressing phone call to an acquaintance in Poland, during which he admitted, "I’ve done something terrible," and expressed a desire to punish himself for his actions.

This incident marked the beginning of a series of troubling behaviors.

Several months later, on November 1 of the same year, Boczek was again intoxicated when he approached another child.

He placed his arm around the child, causing the young person to feel frightened and uncomfortable.

Court documents reveal that Boczek attempted to persuade the child to sit with him before ultimately committing a sexual assault that lasted approximately two to three minutes.

The child, overwhelmed and scared, confided in family members about the assault, prompting immediate police intervention.

Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, arresting Boczek on November 2.

During his police interview, Boczek was visibly intoxicated, having consumed alcohol and cannabis.

He was taken to the police station where he was handed a digital pen, which he then began striking against a desk.

When an officer attempted to restrain him, Boczek used the pen as a weapon, striking the officer and causing a cut to his forearm that required medical treatment.

The incident highlighted his aggressive state and disregard for authority during the arrest.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Boczek claimed he could not remember much of the events due to his intoxication.

He admitted to previous incidents but denied having any sexual interest in children.

His defense argued that while there was little mitigation for his actions, his early guilty pleas and remorse should be considered.

His legal representative, Duncan McReddie, emphasized that Boczek, who has been remanded in prison during the COVID-19 pandemic, felt isolated and struggled with communication due to his limited English skills.

Despite these challenges, references from his employers at Stainton Quarry in Barnard Castle described him as a valuable employee, and they indicated that a job would still be available for him upon his release.

Judge Stephen Ashurst addressed Boczek directly, acknowledging his serious drinking problem and the gravity of his offenses.

The court sentenced Boczek to 27 months in prison and imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

Additionally, Boczek was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next decade, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety and the protection of children in the community.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals with such histories and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial oversight in safeguarding vulnerable members of society.
