MAN JAILED FOR KNIFEPOINT RAPE IN BRIGHTON
A man has been sentenced to prison after threatening a woman with a knife and raping her in Brighton, Sussex Police have announced.A representative from Sussex Police stated: “Philip Smith, 29 years old, assaulted the woman late at night in the vicinity of Brighton’s city center.
“The victim, who remains anonymous for legal reasons, reached out to a friend nearby to alert authorities.

Police officers on patrol subsequently located Smith, matching the description provided, in Quadrophenia Alley off Little East Street, where he was found armed with two knives.
He was also discovered to be in possession of class A drugs.
After a trial, he was convicted of two counts of rape.
On June 25 at Hove Crown Court, Smith, who has no fixed address, received a 13-year prison sentence.” Detective Superintendent Andrew Harbour commented: “This was a distressing incident for the victim in the heart of Brighton.
Her quick thinking to contact a friend helped facilitate her rescue, and the prompt arrest of Smith ensured justice was served.
