PHILIP TOMLINSON SENTENCED IN LEEDS FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man identified as Philip Tomlinson has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple historic sexual offences committed against children.The sentencing took place at Chester Crown Court on Monday, 23 September, where the 56-year-old was handed a 20-year prison sentence for his crimes.
At the time of his sentencing, Tomlinson was incarcerated at HMP Altcourse, but he previously resided in Leeds.
His conviction stems from a week-long trial held in June, during which he was found guilty of three counts of raping a girl under the age of 16 and two counts of buggery.
These offences are alleged to have occurred several years ago, with the victims coming forward to report their experiences.
The investigation into Tomlinson’s actions was initiated after a woman contacted Cheshire Police in February 2022.
She reported that she had been raped multiple times during the 1990s.
According to her account, she was assaulted on at least three separate occasions by Tomlinson, with incidents taking place in Winsford and in the North Wales area.
Her disclosures prompted police to launch a detailed investigation into her allegations.
Subsequently, police received a second report from a male victim who claimed he had also been raped by Tomlinson.
This second victim’s account indicated that the offences occurred in the 1980s, specifically in the Northwich area.
The police acted swiftly, arresting Tomlinson and conducting a thorough interview in relation to both sets of allegations.
Despite denying the accusations during questioning, Tomlinson’s responses did not prevent the authorities from building a case against him.
Over the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers worked diligently to gather evidence and support the victims.
Their efforts culminated in the successful prosecution of Tomlinson, who was ultimately convicted on multiple counts of sexual assault against minors.
In addition to his prison sentence, Tomlinson is now subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his contact with potential victims and prevent further offences.
Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from future harm.
