PHILIP PARIYO, CARDIFF RUGBY PLAYER, SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN WALES

A man originally from Uganda, Philip Pariyo, who sought asylum in Wales and was once known for his rugby talents, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being convicted of raping a woman in Cardiff.

During the proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Pariyo, aged 32, had developed a close relationship with the woman involved prior to the assault. The incident took place in a flat within Cardiff city in June 2021. Despite his repeated denials of the crime, the jury found him guilty of rape in December 2024.

Pariyo's background includes representing Uganda in Rugby Sevens at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. After his sporting career, he disappeared from the public eye, eventually seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.
