PHILIP LOCK, 38, CONVICTED OF GBH IN TORQUAY AND YORKSHIRE
A 38-year-old man named Philip Lock has been found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) after assaulting and biting his partner during their holiday in Torquay. The incident took place following a drinking session at the Tor Park Hotel, which led to a tumultuous and violent journey back to Yorkshire. Witnesses reported seeing Lock attacking his partner in the vehicle, including incidents where he bit her ear. The woman was left distressed with a broken nose and bleeding in Wellington. Later, she was discovered face down in a ditch, looking distressed, with Lock standing over her before he drove away and left her behind. Lock, who has a record of 42 past crimes, pleaded guilty to the GBH charge at Exeter Crown Court and received a sentence of four years and one month in prison. The victim sustained a broken nose, injuries to her ear, and bruising, and she has since spoken about ongoing trauma and a sense of lost self-identity. In addition, Lock admitted to dangerous driving and breaching a restraining order. His defense acknowledged that the woman had originally agreed to go on holiday with him and admitted that he had initiated some of the violence. The judge emphasized Lock’s extensive criminal history against her and his multiple law breaches.
