PETER WALMSLEY FROM STROOD BUSTED IN NOTTINGHAM FOR SEX OFFENCES AND BREACHING COURT ORDERS

In a series of serious legal incidents, Peter Walmsley, a man with a long history of sexual offenses, found himself back in trouble with the law in Nottingham.

In January 2018, Walmsley, aged 53 and residing on Woodborough Road in Nottingham, was sentenced to six months in prison after he was found to have violated a Sexual Offences' Prevention Order. The court heard that Walmsley had deliberately used the intu Broadmarsh Centre as a shortcut to reach an NHS facility, despite being explicitly barred from entering the premises. This breach of the court order was taken very seriously, given the restrictions placed on him to prevent further offenses.

The court also established that Walmsley was prohibited from entering the intu Victoria Centre, another major shopping location in Nottingham, as part of his ongoing legal restrictions. His actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the court's directives, leading to his immediate incarceration for the breach.

However, Walmsley's criminal history stretches back over decades. In December 2003, police in Nottingham successfully apprehended him after a three-month manhunt. At that time, Walmsley, then 39 years old, was identified as a dangerous serial sex offender responsible for multiple attacks on vulnerable victims, including young children and elderly women.

He was dubbed an 'anger rapist' by authorities due to the nature of his crimes, which included attempted rape and numerous indecent assaults. Walmsley's criminal record is extensive; he had previously served a 54-month sentence in 1998 after being convicted of indecently assaulting a 69-year-old woman at a market. During that hearing, he admitted to committing an additional 27 offenses. His first known conviction for a sex attack dates back to 1984, and over the years, he has been convicted of a total of 15 similar crimes, many of which occurred in the Preston area.

Following his release from Elmley Prison in Kent in October 2002, Walmsley moved to Slough, Berkshire, where he registered with local authorities as having no fixed address. His movements subsequently took him to a hostel in Strood, Kent, and later to Nottingham. Despite being required to provide updated whereabouts within two weeks of moving, he left Nottingham on August 14 and began sleeping rough in the city, failing to meet the legal obligation to inform authorities of his new location.

In December 2003, police received reports of potential sightings of Walmsley, which led to a swift arrest in Nottingham. Officers confirmed that he was detained and taken to an undisclosed police station for questioning on suspicion of failing to register his address as mandated by the Sex Offenders Act. The police spokesperson clarified that Walmsley did not have any outstanding license conditions from previous sentences, so there was no immediate risk of him being recalled to prison.

Walmsley's criminal history and recent breaches highlight ongoing concerns about his potential threat to the community, especially given his history of targeting women and children at random, including the attempted rape of a nine-year-old girl and an attack on an elderly woman. His case remains a stark reminder of the importance of strict enforcement of court orders and the monitoring of high-risk offenders in the UK.
