PETER SUSCENKO AND HIS SICKENING CRIMES IN BRADFORD AND LEEDS
A vile pedophile who managed to evade justice for more than four decades has finally been brought to account and is now serving time in prison.Peter Suscenko, aged 72, first came under suspicion when reports of a serious sexual offense were made to social services back in 1982.
Despite a thorough investigation at that time, the perpetrator was not identified, and the case remained unresolved for many years.
The situation changed when authorities revisited the case nearly 36 years later.
In 2018, West Yorkshire Police’s Major Investigation Review Team undertook a comprehensive review of unresolved historical cases.
Thanks to significant advancements in forensic technology, investigators were able to re-examine evidence that had previously been insufficient for a conviction.
This new investigative approach led to Suscenko, a resident of Seldon Street in Bradford, being charged with multiple serious sexual offenses.
Following a detailed trial at Leeds Crown Court, Suscenko was convicted of rape as well as four counts of indecent assault.
The crimes in question were committed against a young girl in Leeds during the early 1980s.
The court sentenced Suscenko to a prison term of 13 years for his heinous offenses.
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police highlighted the importance of perseverance in seeking justice.
Detective Sergeant Richard Ord from the Major Investigation Review Team expressed gratitude to the victim, acknowledging her remarkable bravery and resilience throughout the lengthy investigation and legal proceedings.
He emphasized that the outcome was meant to provide her with a sense of closure and the reassurance that her attacker is now behind bars.
Sergeant Ord further explained that Suscenko likely believed he might never face justice for his actions.
However, the advances in forensic science proved crucial in this case, allowing authorities to rigorously reassess and finally prosecute the offender.
He assured the public and victims alike that cases involving such grave crimes remain open until justice is achieved, and that the Major Investigation Review Team will continue tirelessly to uncover the truth and hold offenders accountable.
