LEEDS MAN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR BRUTAL DOMESTIC HOMICIDE
A 60-year-old Leeds resident named Peter Stalgis has been convicted of the murder of his partner, Angela Conoby. The investigation revealed that Stalgis, who was at risk of losing his home, left Angela’s corpse in their Harehills residence to decay over a two-week period following her death.
The jury deliberated for only 20 minutes before convicting him of homicide, after evidence showed he had concealed her for more than two years out of shame.
Court proceedings disclosed that the couple faced financial hardship, with their bank nearing repossession of their house, a fact that Stalgis kept from Angela.
On May 7, 2018, Stalgis contacted solicitors during a bank holiday, and later that evening, police discovered Angela's body covered by a blanket inside their home.
A letter written by Stalgis after the incident was presented in court, in which he expressed guilt and shame, stating, "I lost the house and I killed the love of my life.
I could not live with the shame.
Please forgive me if you can.
I deserve to rot in hell.
I love you all." The judge described the murder as particularly violent, noting that Stalgis inflicted a slash across Angela's neck and stabbed her twice in the back.
The judge emphasized, "I am quite sure that when you did this your intention was to kill her." It was also highlighted that Stalgis abandoned Angela as she bled and was dying in their home without offering any assistance.
Furthermore, he faked injuries and lied to Angela’s sister, Michaela Conoby, about her location until the police recovered her body.
Having no prior convictions, Stalgis was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 14 years.
