Peter Gorman

Blackpool Sexual Abuser

July 2013 Man had hundreds of vile abuse images A man who accessed hundreds of “disgusting” photos and video clips of children being sexually abused has been jailed for more than three years. Peter Gorman, 46, of George Street, Blackpool, also shared the material on a website, Preston Crown Court was told. He has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison. He admitted 12 offences of making indecent images of children, 10 of possessing the images, and nine offences of possessing indecent photographs with a view to distribution before a judge at the crown court. Paul Brookwell, prosecuting, said the overall material in the case amounted to more than 500 indecent photographs of children, plus at least 450 videos. Ciaran Rankin, defending, told the court his client had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. He added: “He has spent a number of weeks in custody since his remand earlier this month. It has had a rather sobering effect upon him, being his first taste of custody.” Judge Pamela Badley said only a sentence of immediate prison could follow. She added: “It is difficult to describe the material, other than by using words such as disgusting and exploitative. “I have to say I am extremely experienced in these matters. “I find the material that you possessed and had available for distribution as perverted, poronographic beyond the understanding of most people who would want to protect and nurture young children, not to view them being harmed for sexual pleasure.” Police had executed a search warrant at Gorman’s address having received information about a social media website. A laptop computer was taken away for examination and the images recovered. The Probation Service assessed him as a low risk of re-offending generally and a medium risk of harm to children. In addition to the jail term, he was told he would be on the Sex Offender’s Register and also subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
