June 2009 Bristol child porn man avoids time in jail A man who downloaded 20 movies of children being abused on to his computer at his Bristol home walked out of court with a suspended prison sentence. Peter Field was found to have downloaded the lewd film clips involving men and children after police swooped on his home and seized his computer. The 51-year-old, of Southmead Road, Westbury-on-Trym, later admitted four charges of making indecent images of children and one charge of possessing indecent images of children. He was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a 36-month community order with a supervision requirement. He was also ordered to attend a sex offender treatment programme, was disqualified from working with children and young people and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for seven years. William Llewelyn, prosecuting at Bristol Crown Court, said officers from Avon and Somerset Police child abuse team searched Field’s home on October 23 last year and seized items including his computer tower. He said examination of the tower revealed 20 movie clips of children involved in sexual activity with men. He said the films had been downloaded from one site on the internet and saved into files between November 16, 2007 and October 23 last year. Field admitted what he had done when he was arrested. Nicholas Arthur, defending Field, who has no previous convictions, said he endorsed the sentencing recommendation from the Probation Service that was adopted by Judge Simon Darwall-Smith. Sentencing Field, judge Darwall-Smith said: “It seems as though you are ashamed of what you did and you have come some way to accepting that you need help in relation to this. “Because of that and you have no previous conviction and have pleaded guilty I take a course that would normally result in a short sentence of imprisonment.”
