PETER CAMPBELL FROM MALTON FOUND GUILTY OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN YORK COURT
In a recent court ruling at York Crown Court, Peter Campbell, aged 35 and formerly residing in Wheldrake before moving to East Heslerton near Malton, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl. The verdict was delivered after a jury carefully considered the evidence presented during the trial, which highlighted disturbing details of the incident.During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by Ian Brook, outlined that Campbell took advantage of the teenager’s vulnerable state, which was compromised due to her intoxication from alcohol and drugs. The court was informed that Campbell’s misconduct involved not only physical assault but also the sharing of explicit images. Specifically, it was alleged that Campbell showed the girl photographs of himself and his wife engaged in sexual acts with a third woman. Following this, he proceeded to commit two sexual acts on her, actions that the jury ultimately found to be criminal.
The incident reportedly occurred when the girl visited Campbell’s former residence in Wheldrake, accompanied by her boyfriend. The purpose of the visit was to purchase a car from Campbell, which added a layer of complexity to the case. During the trial, Campbell claimed that the girl had encouraged his actions and that she had given her consent. He also admitted to touching her sexually but insisted that it was consensual. Campbell denied allegations that he deliberately intoxicated her or manipulated her through a drinking game designed to create discord between her and her boyfriend. Furthermore, he denied showing her explicit images of himself, his wife, and another woman.
Campbell faced two charges of sexual assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. The jury, however, found him guilty of one of these charges, while acquitting him of the other. The court has adjourned the case until October 4, when a pre-sentence report will be prepared to determine the appropriate punishment. The presiding judge, Recorder Jeremy Hill-Baker, issued a stern warning, stating, “You should prepare yourself for an immediate sentence of custody,” indicating that Campbell should expect to face imprisonment soon.
