PAUL ROBERTS FROM CAERNARFON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND PAEDOPHILE MANUAL OFFENSES

In June 2023, North Wales Police received a report concerning an indecent image that had been uploaded to a social media platform.

The investigation that followed was thorough and led to the arrest of Paul Roberts, a 68-year-old resident of the Bontnewydd area in Caernarfon.

During the subsequent digital forensic analysis of Roberts’ electronic devices, authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of nearly four hundred thousand indecent and extreme pornographic images.

Many of these images depicted the sexual abuse of children, highlighting the severity and depravity of the material stored on his devices.

Roberts faced multiple serious charges, including the creation and possession of indecent photographs and pseudo-photographs of a child.

Notably, this case marked a first for North Wales Police, as Roberts was also charged with possessing a 'Paedophile manual,' a document that details methods and information related to paedophilia.

Roberts did not contest the charges; he pleaded guilty to all of them.

The case was heard at Caernarfon Crown Court, where the judge sentenced him to the maximum term of three years and six months in prison.

Additionally, Roberts was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes restrictions aimed at preventing future offending and protecting the community from potential harm.
