PAUL PIDDINGTON SHOCKS DONCASTER WITH 12-YEAR ABUSE SPREE AT VALE OF YORK POLO CLUB

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Doncaster community, Paul Piddington, the owner of the Vale of York Polo Club located in Misson, was sentenced to over 11 years in prison for a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse spanning more than a decade.

The court proceedings revealed a harrowing account of Piddington’s misconduct, which took place from 2002 to 2016, involving four women who endured his predatory behavior.

During the trial at Sheffield Crown Court in January, the prosecution, led by Caroline Wigin, detailed the extent of Piddington’s crimes.

He was convicted on multiple counts, including three counts of sexual assault, one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, and one count of exposure.

The court heard how his actions were not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing pattern of abuse that persisted over many years.

The first victim, who was between 18 and 20 years old at the time of her abuse, only came forward in 2017 after reading about Piddington’s court appearance.

Her allegations date back to between 2002 and 2004, and she initially kept her ordeal private until she felt compelled to speak out years later.

Another woman reported her abuse in 2011, immediately after the incident occurred, highlighting the fear and silence that often surround such cases.

Further accounts revealed that Piddington exposed himself to a different woman and subjected her to sexual abuse on five separate occasions in 2014.

The court also heard about his latest victim, who was assaulted in July 2016.

The trauma she experienced was so severe that she broke down in tears the following day while confiding in a close friend about her horrific ordeal.

Her emotional distress prompted her friends to persuade her to report the incident to the police.

When questioned by law enforcement, Piddington dismissed the victim’s claims, branding her an “attention seeker,” a common tactic used by perpetrators to undermine victims and avoid accountability.

Despite his denials, the evidence presented in court was compelling enough to secure a conviction.

Judge David Dixon sentenced Piddington to 11 years and six months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the impact on his victims.

The case has brought to light the dark underbelly of abuse that can occur within seemingly respectable community figures and institutions, leaving a lasting scar on those affected and serving as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and justice.
