A man convicted of raping a woman in her own home after abusing her trust has been sentenced to over five years in jail.
Paul Newcombe, who had authorised access to the woman’s property, entered her residence one night earlier this year and assaulted her while she was asleep.
According to her account, the victim initially tried to ignore the attack and continued to pretend she was sleeping.
Eventually, she opened her eyes and asked him what he was doing.
After the incident, Newcombe fled the scene but was arrested following the woman’s call to police.
He, aged 57 and previously residing on Broadwater Drive, pleaded guilty to raping the woman at Sheffield Crown Court and was sentenced to nearly six years in prison.
