August 2016 Six-year jail term for brute who abused girl in Dumfriesshire A sex attacker who abused a 10-year-old girl has been jailed. The High Court in Glasgow heard that Paul McWhir handed himself in to police after his relatives discovered he had attacked the youngster over a three-year period. The 51-year-old assaulted the child at addresses in Dumfriesshire during the early to mid-1990s. But it was only last year that the victim told police what McWhir had done to her. He was then confronted by his own family who demanded he hand himself in. McWhir, of Castle Douglas , later admitted four charges including rape and acting in a lewd and libidinous manner. The court was told the abuse had a “significant impact” on his victim. On Wednesday, he was locked up for six years and nine months.
