PAUL MARTINDALE FROM BARROW SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CUMBRIA

In a case that has shocked the community of Barrow and the wider Cumbria region, two men have been convicted and sentenced for heinous child sex offences involving minors under the age of 13. The offenders, Paul Griffiths and Paul Martindale, both residents of Barrow, faced justice after a lengthy investigation and trial at Preston Crown Court.

Paul Griffiths, aged 41 and residing on Greengate Street in Barrow, was handed a sentence of 20 years in prison. His crimes included three counts of indecent assault on a female, one on a male, along with two other serious sexual offences and acts of cruelty inflicted upon a child. The severity of his actions and the nature of the offences have been described as particularly disturbing by law enforcement officials.

Paul Martindale, aged 40 and living on Ramsgate Crescent in Barrow, received a 15-year prison term. His convictions included rape, four counts of indecent assault on a female, and acts of gross indecency involving a child. The charges stem from abuse that took place during the late 1980s and early 1990s, with the victims being a boy and a girl, both under the age of 13 at the time of the offences.

Ch Insp Mike Forrester of Cumbria Police expressed his profound concern and emphasized the gravity of the case. He stated, “The two victims in this case have been phenomenal and incredibly brave to come forward and report this. I hope this will show others who are in similar situations that even if it takes you a long time to build up the confidence to confide in us, we will always take you seriously and will do absolutely everything we can to bring offenders to justice on your behalf.”

He further warned potential offenders, saying, “This should also serve as a stark reminder for anybody engaging in similar activity to Griffiths and Martindale that your actions will never be tolerated. You will always be caught and prosecuted, and face a miserable life behind bars.”
