Paul Knott

Tuebrook Sexual Abuser

June 2002 Dad Killed his baby son A LIVERPOOL man suffocated his baby son in an act of revenge against his ex-girlfriend. Paul Joseph Knott was jailed for life this afternoon at Liverpool Crown Court. He murdered 12-month-old Kyle after he discovered his former partner was seeing another man. He pleaded guilty to murder. Judge David Clarke QC, the recorder of Liverpool said: “I find it impossible to think of a crueller form of revenge.” Knott, 35, of Tuebrook, also pleaded guilty to making threats to kill against his former partner The judge was told that he had been baby-sitting his son at his former partners home in Eccleston, St Helens, on January 19. Prosecuting, Peter Davies said: “He never overcame his relationship with her. He was possessive of her. “He claimed in a police interview he wanted to destroy his former partners life like she had done his.” The judge was told Knott took the baby from his cot and placed him on a nearby bed. He suffocated him with a pillow, kissed him to say he was sorry and placed him back in the cot. The dead infant was discovered by Knotts former partner’s teenage son Lee when he returned to the house. Mr Davies said: “He was saying she would be next.” The former partner ran into the road and locked herself in a car. Knott, who had a drinking problem, was found in a street nearby with a bottle of whisky and a knife. Defending, David Steer QC said: “He does not wish to advance any excuse for his behaviour and he accepts what he did will be with him for the rest of his life. “He is most anxious that nothing should distract from the remorse for that which he did to Kyle. “The breakdown of the two and a half year relationship had a profound effect on him.” Sentencing him, Judge Clarke said: “Kyle was just 12 months old, he was a defenceless child. “I find it impossible to think of a crueller form of revenge. I have no doubt that you now regret what he did, but no-one can now turn back the clock.”
