PAUL HOLLAND OF GATESHEAD CAUGHT IN NCLESTER AND TYNE AND WEAR IN SHOCKING PAEDOPHILE CASE
In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the local community, Paul Holland, a resident of Gateshead, has been found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving a minor and breaching court orders designed to prevent such crimes. The case, which unfolded over several years, highlights the dangers posed by individuals with a history of offending and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community groups.
In June 2019, a woman from Newcastle, who had initially met Holland through a dating app, was left devastated and embarrassed after discovering that the man she had introduced to her young daughter was a convicted paedophile.
Holland had previously served a prison sentence after being caught by a vigilante group while attempting to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
He was sentenced to 20 months in prison for attempted grooming and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
Remarkably, just weeks after his release, Holland resumed contact with the woman via the Badoo dating platform.
He arranged to meet her and, over the course of two consecutive nights, visited her home in the West End of Newcastle, where her two-year-old daughter was also present.
Holland was subject to a sexual harm prevention order that explicitly prohibited him from remaining in a household with a female child without prior approval from social services.
Despite this, he continued to pursue contact with the woman and her child.
On May 4, Holland, the woman, and her daughter spent the day together, touring Newcastle city, as the woman was unfamiliar with the area.
Two days later, on May 6, Holland visited her at her residence.
The woman later provided a victim impact statement, expressing her feelings of shame and fear.
She stated, “I’m not feeling safe in my own home because he knows where I live and may seek revenge.
I feel embarrassed about the way I’ve been deceived.” Judge Stephen Earl addressed the court, acknowledging the woman’s distress and her feelings of failure as a parent, saying, “She’s concerned and embarrassed that as a parent she failed, potentially, to protect her child.” Holland was subsequently sentenced to an additional 20 months in prison for breaching the sexual harm prevention order on two separate occasions.
Holland’s criminal history is extensive, with 84 previous convictions, although none directly related to his latest offenses.
His criminal record includes a notable incident in May 2018, when he was caught by paedophile hunters from the group WASP.
In that incident, Holland believed he was communicating with a schoolgirl on the social networking site Tagged, but in reality, he was speaking with members of the vigilante group.
The confrontation was recorded, showing Holland being detained by members of Geordie Chasers, another paedophile hunter organization, until police arrived to arrest him.
During that encounter, Holland, then 42 years old, denied any intent to meet a minor, claiming, “no I wouldn’t do that, I’ve got kids.” However, the evidence showed that he had attempted to groom a minor by exchanging explicit messages and images.
Prosecutors revealed that Holland had sent a picture of his genitals and a video of himself performing a sex act to the decoy profile.
He also tried to persuade the girl to send him explicit images of herself.
Further investigations uncovered that Holland had been in contact with the decoy for over a month, with conversations moving to WhatsApp.
He arranged to meet the girl at a shop near St James’ Park in Newcastle city centre, but the plan was thwarted when members of the vigilante groups intervened and called the police.
The court heard that Holland’s messages became increasingly sexual, with him sending explicit images and videos, and requesting the same from the girl.
Judge Penny Moreland sentenced Holland to 20 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following grooming and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
She also ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years and imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, emphasizing the seriousness of his repeated violations and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
