PAUL HAIDUCSI FROM MIDDLESBROUGH CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 87,000 CHILD ABUSE PICTURES AND VIDEOS
In May 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Haiducsi, a 44-year-old man from Middlesbrough, who was found to possess an extensive collection of illegal images and videos depicting child abuse.The authorities uncovered a staggering total of 86,789 indecent pictures of children on his laptop and two external hard drives during a police raid at his residence on Borough Road, located in central Middlesbrough.
Prosecutor Jenny Haigh revealed that among these images, the most serious included over six hours of graphic videos.
She emphasized that some of the images displayed children experiencing clear signs of pain or distress, highlighting the severity of the material Haiducsi had accumulated.
Haiducsi was not at home during the raid as he was in Romania.
It was during his interview upon returning to the UK that he admitted to the possession of these illegal images.
He explained that he had noticed filenames associated with child abuse images on a computer in Romania approximately eleven years prior.
After relocating to England in March of the previous year, he admitted to actively searching for and downloading the disturbing content.
Despite the gravity of his collection, Haiducsi claimed that his actions were not driven by sexual gratification but rather by curiosity.
He insisted that he was simply interested in understanding what he had seen in the past, more than a decade earlier, and that he did not derive any sexual pleasure from the images.
Haiducsi, who now resides on Maple Street in Middlesbrough, faced charges of making indecent images of children.
This marked his first conviction related to such offenses.
His defense lawyer, John Nixon, argued that Haiducsi had recklessly downloaded a package of images without actively seeking out the most serious content.
Nixon stated, “He didn’t like what he saw and they were deleted.
They were never viewed again.
He got what he clicked on.” Furthermore, Nixon highlighted Haiducsi’s difficult background, noting that he worked as a warehouseman to support his family, who lived in extreme poverty in Romania.
He warned that if Haiducsi were to be imprisoned immediately, his wife and child would suffer significant hardship due to the lack of financial support.
The Probation Service assessed Haiducsi as a low risk for reoffending or causing harm to children.
Despite this, Judge Peter Armstrong emphasized that only a custodial sentence could be justified given the seriousness of the offenses.
He acknowledged Haiducsi’s lack of previous convictions and the potential for rehabilitation but concluded that a suspended sentence was appropriate.
As a result, Haiducsi was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he was placed under a sexual harm prevention order restricting his internet use and will be on the sex offenders’ register for ten years, reflecting the ongoing concern over his access to online material.
