PAUL ECCLESTON FROM FAZAKERLEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF SCHOOLGIRL IN PRESCOT

In June 2018, a disturbing case of grooming and sexual misconduct came to light involving Paul Eccleston, a man residing in Fazakerley. Eccleston, aged 37 at the time, engaged in a calculated campaign of manipulation aimed at a vulnerable teenage girl, ultimately leading to serious allegations of sexual abuse.

Eccleston, who was married and living on Field Lane in Fazakerley, targeted the young girl before she reached her 16th birthday. Over a period of time, he used flattery, affection, and psychological pressure to exploit her low self-esteem. The court heard that Eccleston told her, “trust the man who is risking everything for you,” a statement designed to sway her trust and deepen his influence.

The prosecution, led by Neil Bisarya, revealed that Eccleston’s abuse took place at his former residence in Prescot. The court was informed that on multiple occasions, Eccleston engaged in inappropriate conduct in the presence of another child, who was a baby at the time, adding a layer of concern regarding the environment in which these acts occurred.

The jury was told that the victim, who has since become an adult, suffered from depression and a significant loss of confidence as a result of Eccleston’s actions. During the trial, it was disclosed that Eccleston touched her breasts and genitals under her clothing and kissed her on the mouth, although he did not commit rape while she was underage. His actions were characterized as grooming and sexual assault, exploiting her vulnerability and low self-esteem. Comments such as “you’re not fat, you’re beautiful” were used by Eccleston to manipulate her emotionally.

Despite the pressure to remain silent, the victim found the courage to report Eccleston’s misconduct after hearing him make inappropriate and revolting comments to another young girl. One such comment included, “You’re getting a good shape on you girl, if I was a paedy-weedy,” which further highlighted his predatory behavior.

Eccleston’s background was noted by the court, which stated that he had no previous convictions for sexual offenses. However, he had a history of violence, having been sent to a young offenders institute for assault as a youth.

Judge Alan Conrad, QC, delivered the sentence, emphasizing the impact of Eccleston’s actions on the victim. The judge remarked that she was taking anti-depressants and had clearly suffered a loss of confidence, which was evident during her testimony. He also highlighted the seriousness of the case, noting that Eccleston had exerted undue pressure on the victim to keep her silence.

As part of his sentence, Eccleston was sentenced to five years in prison and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
