PAUL CONSTABLE PREVIOUSLY EXPOSED AS AN ANIMAL ABUSER IS NOW CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENCES AND DOMESTIC ABUSE

Paul Russell Constable, born in May 1983 and formerly residing at Connel View, New Cumnock, Ayrshire, but now living at Princes Court in Ayr, was involved in a disturbing incident that drew the attention of local authorities and animal welfare advocates alike.

On October 18, 2021, Constable was recorded to have violently assaulted a dog during a heated outburst at the Day Today Store located on High Park Avenue in Ayr.

According to court proceedings, Constable’s aggressive behavior began shortly after 7 pm when he entered the shop.

Witnesses reported that he was asked to leave the premises, but instead of complying, he responded with shouting and repeated swearing, creating a tense and unsettling atmosphere within the store.

The situation escalated when Constable was observed outside the store, where he was seen punching the dog on its body.

This act of cruelty was witnessed by bystanders, one of whom immediately contacted the police to report the incident.

Police officers arrived promptly at the scene, and a nearby witness identified Constable as the individual responsible for the assault.

As the officers approached, Constable’s demeanor turned aggressive; he began shouting and swearing at the police, refusing to calm down despite warnings.

His unruly conduct led to his arrest, during which he was handcuffed and taken to Kilmarnock Police Station.

En route, he further demonstrated his hostility by headbutting a cell window while still shouting and swearing.

During the court hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court, Constable admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog and to engaging in threatening behavior.

The Procurator Fiscal depute detailed the events, emphasizing the seriousness of the assault and the subsequent disorderly conduct.

The court was also informed that Constable made no reply when cautioned and charged.

Defense solicitor Steven Maxwell acknowledged the gravity of Constable’s actions, describing his behavior as “appalling” and asserting that his client was contrite.

However, Sheriff Desmond Leslie expressed strong disapproval, stating, “People have to be protected from people like you coming in and causing merry hell.

You’re violent to a dog?

The dog had done nothing wrong.

You really deserve jail.

It was a year ago, but this behavior cannot be tolerated.” As a result of the court’s judgment, Constable was sentenced to an 18-month supervision order along with a three-month curfew, reflecting the seriousness with which the court viewed his violent conduct and the need to prevent future incidents.

The case has sparked ongoing discussions about animal cruelty and public safety within the Ayr community, highlighting the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions.

AUGUST 2025 - A violent rapist who harassed, abused and assaulted four women over the course of 17 years is now behind bars.

Paul Constable was convicted of multiple rapes and physical attacks against the victims between 2005 and 2022, following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow earlier this year.

A jury returned guilty verdicts on more than a dozen charges, and the offender was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment last month.

The 42-year-old's abusive behaviour began in November 2005 and included multiple offences committed against the same woman at addresses in Cumnock, New Cumnock and elsewhere.

Constable's offences included isolating the victim from her social circle, harassing her to have sex, shouting, swearing, insulting, following her, punching himself, contacting her repeatedly via phone and text, and assaulting her while she was pregnant, including hitting, dragging her by the hair, punching, pinning against a wall, and choking her to her injury and danger of her life.

He also raped her on multiple occasions.

He threatened to take his own life, held a knife to his throat and wrists, and urged another victim to kill him.

His crimes spanned from 2009 to 2010 at addresses in Kelloholm and elsewhere, with additional convictions of threatening behaviour between October 2010 and March 2019, involving refusals to leave properties, accusations of infidelity, harassment to have sex, physical assaults including pushing, punching, grabbing her throat, and abuse of a third woman between 2019 and 2022, which included derogatory remarks, harassment, striking her and assaulting her while she was sleeping.

Constable was also convicted of raping the third woman on multiple occasions, including while she slept, and on one occasion in February 2022.

Similar offences occurred against a fourth victim in 2022, including striking her on the head, punching, strangulating, and attempting to rape her while she was unconscious.

Following his court appearance last month, he was handed a 15-year extended sentence, with 12 years in custody and three years on licence once released.

His custodial sentence was backdated to his initial remand on June 10 of the previous year.
