MAN AVOIDS CUSTODY FOR SEX ASSAULT AND HARASSING WOMAN
A convicted sex offender has been prohibited from making contact with a woman who was subjected to assault and harassment in an attempt to influence her testimony.
Alexander Hastings was found guilty of sexually assaulting the woman last year at Ayr Sheriff Court.
On May 30, 2025, he pushed her onto a vehicle, lay on top of her, and repeatedly touched her private areas.
He also confessed to engaging in abusive conduct at addresses in Maybole between June 25 and 30 of the previous year, which included tracking her movements, loitering nearby, approaching her, mocking her, and trying to start a conversation.
Hastings further attempted to discuss ongoing criminal cases, encouraged her to alter her statement, asked her to get into his vehicle, refused to leave when asked, and sent flowers to her home while on bail.
He was sentenced to a community payback order with two years of supervision, two years in the Caledonian men's programme, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he was issued a five-year non-harassment order and will remain on the sex offenders register for the same duration.
He is due for further court hearings.
