PAUL BERRY FROM JERSEY ADMITS TO HAVING OVER 400 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
In a significant case heard at the Royal Court, Paul Michael Berry, a 55-year-old resident of Jersey, has confessed to possessing a large collection of indecent images depicting minors. The court proceedings took place on a Friday, during which Berry pleaded guilty to two separate charges related to the possession of these illicit materials.
Advocate Nicholas Mière, representing Berry, confirmed the defendant’s guilty pleas to both charges.
The court was informed that the evidence against Berry included the discovery of a total of 403 indecent images of children under the age of 16.
These images were found stored on two computers located at a property in St.
Lawrence, a well-known area in Jersey.
Prosecutor Crown Advocate Matthew Maletroit appeared in the case, requesting that Berry be remanded into custody until his sentencing.
The prosecution emphasized the seriousness of the charges and the need for the defendant to remain detained pending the final judgment.
In response, Advocate Mière did not submit a bail application on behalf of his client, leading to Berry’s immediate remand.
The defendant was taken into custody following the court session and will remain detained until his sentencing hearing scheduled for 29 March.
The presiding Bailiff informed Berry that, due to his guilty pleas, he would now be required to register on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
The duration of this registration will be determined at the sentencing hearing, but it will be for a minimum period as mandated by law.
The court’s decision underscores the gravity of the offenses committed by Berry and the ongoing legal process in Jersey regarding such serious crimes.
