PAUL BAIRD AND SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN NEWCASTLE AND KILLINGWORTH
A disturbing case involving the discovery of a hidden collection of illicitly recorded images of children and footage of a woman taken without her consent has come to light in Newcastle.The revelation was made by the defendant's former partner, who was horrified to find evidence of his disturbing activities.
The incident unfolded when Paul Baird’s ex-wife noticed explicit material on an iPad that was being used by a child.
This device was linked to a Google account associated with the phone Baird was using at the time.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that there were multiple videos, many of which depicted children in compromising and inappropriate situations.
Prosecutor Rachel Glover outlined the nature of the footage during a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.
She described the videos as showing Baird filming children, focusing on their bare legs, bottoms in swimwear, and even up their skirts.
The court was told that Baird’s camera was deliberately directed at their private parts and under their skirts, highlighting the predatory nature of his actions.
The court also heard that Baird’s ex-wife was deeply distressed upon discovering the extent of his misconduct.
She described the experience as traumatic and overwhelming, emphasizing the emotional toll it took on her.
Her discovery not only revealed Baird’s involvement in these illicit activities but also left her feeling devastated and suffering from mental health issues.
She now finds it difficult to go out in public, especially when she notices people using their phones, as she feels an uncontrollable impulse to check whether she is being filmed.
Further evidence presented in court included 35 videos of a woman, in which Baird was either filming or attempting to film under her clothing.
This added to the distress experienced by the woman, who has since struggled with mental health problems and social anxiety.
Her ordeal underscores the invasive and harmful nature of Baird’s actions.
Paul Baird, aged 38, residing at Garth 24, Killingworth, North Tyneside, was found to have no prior criminal record.
He pleaded guilty to five counts of taking indecent images of children and one count of voyeurism.
The court sentenced him to 20 months in prison.
Additionally, Baird is required to sign the sex offenders register and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the next ten years.
Judge Edward Legard delivered a stern warning to Baird, stating, “Filming young female children purely in order to feed your sexual gratification is simply unconscionable.
The lives of these young children can and often are permanently scarred.
You and others like you must bear responsibility for it.
What your ex-wife has had to endure can only be guessed at.
For her to discover, in the way she did, that the man to whom she was married was taking indecent photographs of children must have been profoundly shocking and distressing.” In his defense, Mark Harrison acknowledged the gravity of Baird’s misconduct, describing it as a gross invasion of privacy that occurred over a relatively short period in 2021.
Harrison stated that Baird had expressed remorse through a letter, apologizing for the pain and upset caused.
He also explained that Baird was experiencing a low point in his life, marked by alcohol and drug misuse, which contributed to his poor mental health at the time.
This case highlights the serious consequences of such reprehensible behavior and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse.
