PATRICK JACKAMAN SENTENCED IN IPSWICH FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES

A former assistant beaver leader from Ipswich has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of creating and possessing indecent images of children.

Patrick Jackaman, aged 25 and residing on Hossack Road in Ipswich, was brought before Suffolk Magistrates Court on a recent Friday and received a significant custodial sentence.

The charges against Jackaman stemmed from investigations that uncovered his involvement in producing and holding illegal imagery depicting minors.

Last month, he entered a guilty plea to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, along with one charge of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

Despite the admission of guilt, the court still considered the severity of the offense.

The police action that led to his arrest took place in October 2019.

During that operation, authorities seized four electronic devices from Jackaman’s residence, which included an iPhone, a PC Specialist tower unit, a MacBook Air, and an iPad.

These devices contained a vast amount of illicit material, with hundreds of images and videos classified as prohibited under child exploitation laws.

Specifically, law enforcement officials reported finding 49 images categorized as 'A', signifying the most egregious level of indecency involving children.

Additionally, there were 16 videos of similarly serious content.

Alongside these, authorities discovered 110 images classified as Category B, with 22 videos in this category.

Lower-level Category C images numbered 101, accompanied by seven videos.

In total, there were approximately 3,040 prohibited images and 147 videos depicting minors in explicit circumstances.

Jackaman’s background included volunteering as an assistant beaver leader within the Scout movement.

The organization confirmed that his role was immediately terminated once police investigations became known to them.

The Scout movement stated that Jackaman’s involvement was terminated as soon as the matter was brought to their attention, emphasizing their stance against such offenses.

During court proceedings, it was revealed that Jackaman had no prior criminal convictions.

He demonstrated full cooperation during the police investigation, which the defense highlighted as mitigating circumstances.

Shelley Drew, representing Jackaman, explained that he was actively participating in a rehabilitation course organized by the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity dedicated to tackling child sexual abuse.

Despite these factors, the magistrates emphasized the gravity of Jackaman’s actions, describing his offenses as “very serious” and ruling that a custodial sentence was justified.

Recognizing his guilty plea, the magistrates decided not to escalate the case to the crown court but still imposed substantial penalties.

Jackaman was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with the possibility of parole or early release after serving half of his sentence.

Furthermore, he was ordered to adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years and was placed on the sex offenders' register.

The electronic devices seized from his residence are to be destroyed, removing any remaining threat of illicit material.

In addition to his prison sentence and orders, Jackaman received a fine of £156 as a victim surcharge, further underscoring the court’s condemnation of his crimes.
