August 2022 Pervert abused girls A judge said a former Grimsby hotel worker had a “monstrous side” as he jailed him for indecent assault on underage girls. Patrick Cheeseman, 64, formerly of Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, wrote a letter to Judge Michael Fanning in which he said he was a paedophile and had researched undergoing a medical procedure to remove his urges towards young girls. Sentencing Cheeseman to four years and eight months in prison, Judge Fanning told Grimsby Crown Court there had been positive sides to the 64-year-old’s character who had worked at a hotel for 23 years, “not just the monstrous side you show to the victims.” Cheeseman was sacked from the hotel when he told bosses about his conviction in 2019 when he admitted sexual assault and two offences of inciting or causing a girl to engage in sexual activity. In that case, he was jailed for a year. After that conviction, two other women contacted Humberside Police to report they had been indecently assaulted by Cheeseman between 1983 and 1985. He admitted a total of four offences against the girls both under 13 years of age. It involved kissing them and touching them inappropriately at an address in Grimsby. Prosecuting, Michele Stuart-Lofthouse read from the victim impact statements of the women and the severe harm Cheeseman caused. One told how she had not had children herself because she did not want any child to go through what she had suffered. “I will never see a child’s first tooth or see them at a prom. I will never get to experience being a mother,” she said. She added; “I should have been carefree. But instead, I felt worthless and Cheeseman was sexually assaulting me for his own twisted sexual gratification. The abuse will never leave me. I shall never forgive what he did. The other woman said his actions had a detrimental effect on her “physically, sexually and emotionally.” She added: “I remember being terrified of him and suffered depression and overwhelming anxiety.” She gave up her career due to three nervous breakdowns. She added: “The ripple effect on my life will continue to be with me for the rest of my life.” Both called for the harshest possible sentence to deter his paedophile behaviour. For Cheeseman, Benjamin Donnell said his client feels “abject horror” at the crimes he committed. “His actions were evil and he recognises that,” said his barrister. He added he accepted he is a paedophile and that it is repugnant and harmful. He had researched medical procedures to overcome his urges. He will relocate to another area on his release, he said. Sentencing Cheeseman, Judge Fanning said: “You knew it was wrong but you chose to do it anyway.” He said the victims had been left “trapped in their childhood which had never left them.” He described Cheeseman as an “opportunistic pervert” who showed “disgusting conduct.” He imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and also said he must comply with a Restraining Order never to contact them directly or indirectly. He addressed the victims in court and gave a heartfelt apology to them for “having to hear all this and have it raked over again.”
