CHRISTOPHER MELLOWS FROM SCUNTHORPE AND CLEETHORPES FACES PRISON FOR SEX OFFENSES
In a recent court hearing held at North Lincolnshire Magistrates' Court, Christopher Mellows, aged 37, of Gladstone Court in Scunthorpe, was brought before the judiciary to face charges related to his failure to comply with the conditions of his sex offender registration.Mellows, who was previously convicted in 2007 for possessing over 2,000 indecent images of children, now faces the possibility of returning to prison after admitting to violations of the legal requirements imposed upon him.
According to prosecutor Deborah Gibson, Mellows had failed to register an address in Cleethorpes where he had been residing for more than seven days within the past year.
This omission is a breach of the conditions set out for sex offenders, who are mandated to keep their registration details current and accurate.
The court also heard that Mellows had been living with two individuals under the age of 18, which raised further concerns about his compliance and the potential risk posed by his living arrangements.
It was revealed during the hearing that Mellows had been spending most weekends at his residence in Cleethorpes and had been alone with the two underage girls for several hours on multiple occasions.
These details contributed to the seriousness of the case, highlighting the ongoing concerns about his conduct and adherence to legal obligations.
Sunil Dhinsa, representing Mellows, acknowledged his client’s acceptance of his wrongdoing and noted that Mellows had cooperated fully with police investigations.
Despite this cooperation, the magistrates were considering the possibility of imposing a custodial sentence, which could extend up to 12 months, given the nature of the offences.
The court ordered an all-options pre-sentence report to be prepared, which would help determine the appropriate sentence.
The case was adjourned until Monday, April 8, to allow for further assessment and deliberation by the magistrates, who will ultimately decide whether Mellows will face imprisonment or other penalties for his breaches of the sex offender registration requirements.
