OWEN WATERSSON FROM DARLINGTON CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES ON DARK WEB
In June 2022, authorities uncovered disturbing evidence linking Owen Waterson, a 19-year-old resident of Darlington, to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The investigation was initiated after police received credible information indicating that Waterson had been actively downloading and viewing illicit material involving minors.
During a detailed search of his residence on Kingfisher Way in Darlington, law enforcement officers discovered a troubling collection of digital content.
Among the items seized were two mobile phones and several USB sticks, which were subsequently examined by the force’s specialized Digital Intelligence and Investigation (DII) Team.
The analysis revealed that Waterson was in possession of a total of 141 indecent images and videos depicting children, with 90 of these classified as the most severe category of abuse material.
The police investigation uncovered that Waterson had accessed these illicit images through a dark web browser, engaging with paedophile forums where such material is often shared and exchanged among offenders.
This activity not only involved viewing but also included the distribution of indecent images, which led to multiple charges against him.
Specifically, Owen Waterson faced three counts of possessing indecent images of a child, three counts of distributing such images, two counts of breaching the Sex Offenders’ Register, and one count of violating his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
These charges reflect the seriousness of his actions and the extent of his involvement in online child exploitation.
Following a thorough 17-hour investigation, Waterson was formally charged and subsequently remanded into custody.
He appeared before Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on June 24, where he pleaded guilty to all nine charges.
His case is scheduled for sentencing at Teesside Crown Court on July 22, where the full extent of his crimes and the appropriate penalties will be determined.
