OSAS AMAYO SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS IN PRISON IN BLACKPOOL FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man who committed a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for his 'wicked and appalling attack.' Osas Amayo, 35, with no fixed address, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Friday following the incident that occurred in February 2021.The police were called at approximately 2:10 a.m.
on February 2, 2021, after a member of the public found a 14-year-old girl near the Revolution Bar on Blackpool's Promenade.
The girl reported that she had been subjected to a serious sexual assault in the nearby area.
Police officers responded quickly, and after searching the vicinity, they arrested a man matching Amayo’s description on Talbot Road.
During further investigation, Amayo was charged with rape.
Although he pleaded not guilty, he was convicted following a 'long and difficult trial.' In addition to his 13-year prison sentence, Amayo was issued a 20-year sexual harm prevention order, and he is required to sign the sex offenders register for 20 years.
Detective Constable Matt Duffy of Blackpool Police commented, 'Amayo is a dangerous offender who targeted his victim, a vulnerable teenage girl, before carrying out a wicked and appalling attack.
His behaviour showed the actions of an opportunist sexual predator.
He knew the victim was underage but went ahead with a horrific sexual assault to satisfy his depraved desires.' He added, 'I can't overstate the impact his actions had on her, and she must be commended for showing immense bravery in reporting the offence to police and throughout the long, difficult trial.
I hope the outcome of this case provides some comfort to her and her family, and that they can begin to move forward.' Detective Duffy also emphasized the commitment of Lancashire Police, stating, 'We take all reports of sexual offences seriously.
