OLIVER YEAMAN FROM COWDENBEATH ESCAPES JAIL BUT FACES WARNING OVER VIOLENT CRIMES IN COWDENBEATH, LOCHGELLY, AND CARDENDEN

Oliver Yeaman, a 24-year-old resident of Cowdenbeath, has narrowly avoided being sentenced to prison despite a history of violent and abusive behavior. The court proceedings took place at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, where Yeaman appeared to face charges stemming from incidents that occurred over a span of more than five years.

Yeaman has an extensive record of misconduct, including a series of aggressive acts directed at his former partner and others. Between November 1, 2019, and July 31, 2022, he engaged in a pattern of abusive conduct at various locations including Cowdenbeath, Cardenden, and Lochgelly. His actions included repeatedly kicking a front door, causing damage, and physically assaulting his partner by grabbing her by the neck, shouting, swearing, and issuing threats of violence. These incidents paint a disturbing picture of ongoing domestic abuse.

In addition to the abuse directed at his partner, Yeaman admitted to assaulting his partner’s mother on July 29 of this year at Main Street in Lochgelly. During this incident, he elbowed her in the body and struck her in the face, further demonstrating his violent tendencies. The court also heard that between September 19 and 30, Yeaman violated bail conditions by repeatedly approaching and contacting his ex-partner, breaching the restrictions imposed on him.

On July 30, 2022, Yeaman committed acts of vandalism in Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath. He struck a car with a crowbar on Henderson Street in Lochgelly, smashing the windscreen. On the same day, he also damaged a van’s windscreen with a crowbar at Woodside in Cowdenbeath. These acts of property destruction further underscore his pattern of violent and destructive behavior.

Despite having two court orders in place—one with four hours of unpaid work remaining and another with 160 hours—Yeaman has failed to complete any of these obligations. His legal representative, Aime Allan, acknowledged his client’s awareness of the need to fulfill these requirements, stating, “He understands he needs to buck up his ideas and do these hours.”

During the hearing, Sheriff Susan Duff explained that the sentences handed down were alternatives to a custodial sentence, emphasizing the seriousness of Yeaman’s conduct. She warned him that the court’s leniency was contingent upon his compliance, stating, “This order is not going to go away unless you end up in custody. What are you going to do?”

Yeaman responded simply, “I’m going to do the hours,” indicating his intention to comply with the court’s orders and avoid jail time. However, the court’s message was clear: continued failure to meet his obligations could result in a custodial sentence, and his violent history remains a significant concern for the authorities in Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, and Cardenden.
