LEEDS STUDENT SENTENCED FOR SELLING CHILD SEX IMAGES TO FUND ADDICTION
Oliver Jenkins, aged 29, was sentenced for selling obscene child sex images to paedophiles to fund his addiction to drink, drugs, and gambling. The court heard Jenkins was found in possession of thousands of illegal images and videos when police searched his residence in Leeds in 2019.
Evidence indicated that Jenkins had been accessing and storing these images on his devices, which he then distributed to others in exchange for payment.
He sent advice on how to view these images to his customers, and transactions were conducted via Paypal.
Jenkins possessed 73 movies and 126 still images at the most serious category (Category A), along with over 6,000 images at Category C.
He pleaded guilty to eight counts of distributing indecent images of a child and three counts of making such images.
The court was told Jenkins' offending was financially motivated, as his solicitor explained he has no sexual interest in children but engaged in these crimes to support his addiction.
His family, including a supportive girlfriend, were mentioned, and it was noted that Jenkins lost his university place due to his convictions.
The judge sentenced Jenkins to 20 months in prison, emphasizing that he profited from and increased the circulation of these illegal images, which contributed to the illicit market.
Despite his privileged background, Jenkins' lifestyle of addiction led him down this dark path.
