OLIVER BARRIE FROM AYR SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ABUSE AND RAPE OF SCHOOLGIRLS

Victims of a heinous double rapist who terrorized young girls have spoken publicly after Oliver Barrie was finally held accountable. Barrie was only 14 years old when he began subjecting his girlfriends to disturbing sexual and physical abuse over seven years ago. Now 22, he has been convicted of raping two ex-girlfriends, one aged 13 and the other 15 at the time, and physically assaulting them when they feared they were pregnant.

Both women detailed how Barrie, from Ayr, destroyed their lives and inflicted long-lasting trauma. They hope sharing their stories will encourage other victims of abuse to come forward. One of the women, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, stated: "He took away my childhood. I’m not the person I used to be, and I still struggle every day because of what he’s done to me."

Barrie was convicted last week after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow and remains in custody pending sentencing. The jury found him guilty of raping his first victim, a 13-year-old girl, between October 2013 and April 2014, when he was between 14 and 15 years old. He was also convicted of assaulting her multiple times at an Ayr property and in a car park from April 2013 to July 2015, repeatedly punching her when he believed she might be expecting a baby.

The second victim, now 21, recounted: "I met him during my first year of school, and he was in third year. He’s very manipulative and knows exactly what to say to make you feel guilty." She described how he quickly became abusive, telling her: "If you just hurry up and do it, I’ll stop nagging you." She explained how he initially made her feel special but then turned abusive. "He did all of this horrendous stuff to me when I was just a child," she said, adding that she initially concealed the abuse and struggled with her mental health afterward.

She revealed that attending therapy helped her realize how dangerous Barrie was. Her decision to speak out came only after police arrived at her door following a report from her second victim. She explained: "I decided I needed to speak out because he’s a danger to every young woman. He really terrifies me."

The second victim, who was 15 when assaulted between June and December 2014, also feared pregnancy and was punched in the stomach by Barrie. She was raped by him again when she was 16 in June 2015. Now 22, she described how Barrie was highly manipulative, cheating on her with at least 26 others she knows of, isolating her from friends and controlling every aspect of her life.

"He would force me to stay on FaceTime constantly and abuse me, telling me, ‘Do this and I’ll stop asking,’" she said. "He made me fall asleep on FaceTime so he could ensure I wasn’t talking to anyone else. It was a relentless cycle, and I felt trapped, unsure of what to do."

She recounted how she confided in Barrie when she feared she was pregnant and was violently punched in the stomach, leaving her overwhelmed and crying. She did not tell her parents what had happened for several years, and only reported the abuse to police with the help of Rape Crisis in 2018. She said: "I wanted to help other girls avoid what we went through."

The victim has since been diagnosed with PTSD, severe depression, and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder as a direct result of Barrie’s actions. Barrie is expected to face sentencing next month.
