SEX OFFENDER WHO SENT ABUSE VIDEOS TO UNDERCOVER POLICE POSING AS GIRL IS JAILED
A man from Wolverhampton has received a prison sentence after engaging in child sex offences, with undercover police playing a key role by making contact with him online while masquerading as a teenage girl.Following intelligence-led enquiries, officers initially contacted Nicholas Robinson via a social media platform earlier this year, pretending to be an adult.
Robinson disclosed that he was interested in children and offered money to help him acquire a camera to obtain explicit images and videos of minors.
Subsequently, the undercover officer received videos depicting child abuse from Robinson.
In a later interaction in February, another undercover officer, this time posing as a 13-year-old girl, asked Robinson to perform a sexual act.
Robinson, 35 years old, from Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier court hearing.
On May 16, he was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court to three years in prison for four child sex offences, including sharing an indecent image of a child and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.
West Midlands Police Detective Constable Neil Cunnington emphasized their efforts to disrupt online abuse, stating, “Our goal is to foster an environment of disruption, fear, and deterrence for those involved in online child exploitation.
Arresting and successfully prosecuting offenders like Robinson are crucial to this objective.
If anyone notices suspicious online behaviour or suspects grooming activities, they are encouraged to contact us for investigation.” In the previous year, the online undercover operations conducted by the West Midlands Police Major Crime Unit resulted in the arrest of 73 individuals involved in predatory sexual offences.
