LEEDS CHEF NIALL JOHNSON JAILED FOR SICKENING SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON TEENAGE GIRL
A sick Leeds chef who continually raped a teenage girl as she told him "no" has been put behind bars.Evil Niall Johnson, now 21, was 18 when he raped the girl, who was 16, at his home.
Leeds Crown Court heard on Thursday how she had stayed over at Johnson's after the pair had chatted over social media.
His Honour Judge Ray Singh said: "At the time of the commission of the offences you were 18.
You met after having started messaging on social media." The court heard there were "no difficulties" at first, but after a number of days, Johnson's behaviour changed during one occasion when he touched and kissed her.
The judge told him: "She told you to stop and you just told her to 'lie back and enjoy it'.
" "You told her to turn around and when she said 'no' you turned her around.
She said 'no' on a number of occasions and tried to move your hand and you continued and only stopped when there was movement in the house." It was said Johnson, of Brathay Gardens, Seacroft, went on to rape the girl twice, and each time she repeatedly told him to stop.
On the first occasion he was said to have "demanded sex" and when the girl told him she did not want that to happen, he "persuaded her and made suggestions to her to let it happen".
The judge said on the second occasion Johnson "got into a mood when she said no" and "pushed her back onto the bed." He said: "She told you to stop and you refused and held her by the arm and left a bruise." He added: "You only stopped when her mobile phone was ringing." The girl went on to tell her parents and close friends what had happened and the police were called.
Following a trial last month, Johnson was found guilty of one count of assault by penetration and two counts of rape.
Judge Singh said: "You denied these matters, which is not unusual for individuals like yourself, but there were messages from you.
She said in a message she hadn't consented and it wasn't a mistake when you tried to indicate she was misunderstood.
You desired to have sex with her despite her continued objections." Prosecutor Clare Walsh read out a summary of a victim impact statement written by the girl.
She said: "She makes comments of the kind of sentence that may be passed and says she will be scared because she knows when he is released he will come and find her and hurt her.
What he did to her has changed her personality.
"She says before she was bubbly and energetic, and now has no motivation for anything and some days it is all she can think about.
She doesn't like people touching her as it takes her back to what the defendant did.
She can't imagine in the future being able to be with anyone...
She doesn't feel she will be able to get close to anyone and thinks everyone is out to get her.
"She described being traumatised, saying she will have to fight against it for a long time." Mitigating, Nicholas Hammond said a pre-sentence report and three character references - including one from someone Johnson worked with and two from people who have known him for a long time - had been handed to the court.
He said: "Of importance, there has been no other offending and none of this nature by the defendant.
It is recognised in the pre-sentence report that in part it could be explained - not excused - by a lack of maturity.
He was an 18-year-old with an inability to control his behaviour.
It is accepted people don't start to mature until their mid-20s and he was 18-years-old at the time of his offending..." It is right to say at the time of his conviction he was in full-time employment and had been for a long time in a restaurant.
He started as pot wash and was promoted to chef.
He is hopeful he will be transferred to a prison where there are opportunities for him to do courses and better himself and upon release will be able to get a job as a chef.
He does not want to be in the criminal justice system again.
He has had his first taste of prison and in the pre-sentence report you will have read it has been a difficult time for him."
