NEZIR SLEMAJ CAUGHT IN NEWCASTLE WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND £77,000 WORTH OF CANNABIS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Newcastle community, Nezir Slemaj, a 20-year-old cannabis cultivator, has been sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered a significant amount of illegal drugs and disturbing indecent material involving children. The incident came to light in August of the previous year when police executed a search warrant at Slemaj's residence on Northcote Street, Newcastle.
During the raid, officers seized an extensive cannabis cultivation operation, which included 68 mature plants and an additional 134 plants at various stages of growth, indicating a large-scale illegal drug enterprise.
The equipment used for cultivation, valued at approximately £10,000, was also confiscated.
Following his arrest, detectives recovered two mobile phones from Slemaj.
A detailed examination of these devices revealed a series of horrifying indecent images and videos involving children, which formed the basis of the criminal charges against him.
The discovery of such material added a deeply disturbing dimension to the case, highlighting the severity of the allegations.
Slemaj was formally charged and appeared before Newcastle Crown Court on December 16.
During the hearing, he was convicted on multiple counts, including three charges of making indecent photographs of children, one count of possessing extreme pornography, and producing a Class B drug—cannabis.
The court remanded him in custody pending sentencing.
On March 16, the same court handed down a substantial sentence, sentencing Slemaj to 16 months in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes restrictions aimed at protecting the public from potential future harm.
Furthermore, Slemaj was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal drug trafficking and the exploitation of children, sending a clear message that such offenses will be met with strict penalties and vigilant prosecution.
