NEVILLE TINKER SENTENCED IN LEEDS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND DISTURBING BEHAVIOR
Neville Tinker, a 62-year-old man from Leeds, has been convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses following a trial at Leeds Crown Court. The case revealed a disturbing pattern of inappropriate and predatory behavior directed towards a teenage girl, whose identity remains protected under legal confidentiality.
During the proceedings, it was detailed that Tinker engaged in a series of unwelcome and invasive actions that caused significant emotional distress to the victim.
The girl, who was between the ages of 17 and 19 at the time of the incidents, was subjected to a range of inappropriate questions and physical contact.
The court heard that Tinker would ask her personal questions about her sex life, including details about her relationship with her boyfriend, and would make unsolicited suggestions about sexual positions they might try.
These conversations made her feel uncomfortable, and she explicitly communicated her desire to cease such discussions, but Tinker persisted.
Furthermore, the court was informed that Tinker would show her images of sex toys and would suggest that she and her boyfriend use them, crossing boundaries of decency and respect.
His bizarre and disturbing behavior extended to Christmas 2017, when he bought her a sex toy complete with attachments, which he had gift-wrapped.
This act was part of a pattern of inappropriate conduct that included taking photographs of her and making comments about her underwear.
In addition to verbal and visual misconduct, Tinker engaged in physical acts that compounded the victim’s trauma.
He encouraged her to sit on his knee, stroked her bottom, and kissed her.
On one occasion, when she mentioned having a bad back, he instructed her to lie on the floor.
Subsequently, he unfastened her bra and rubbed her back, actions that were clearly unwelcome and invasive.
Despite the overwhelming evidence and the jury’s guilty verdict after a trial that lasted more than a week, Tinker denied any wrongdoing.
The court heard that he maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
In a victim impact statement read aloud by prosecutor Nick Adlington, the girl described feeling “emotionally broken” and continuing to struggle with “overwhelming” panic and anxiety as a result of Tinker’s actions.
Her words underscored the profound and lasting impact of his misconduct.
Judge Ray Singh sentenced Tinker to 33 months in prison.
Addressing him directly, the judge stated, “You said you had no sexual interest in her.
I’m afraid that is wholly untruthful.
You still can’t bring yourself to accept your sexual behavior and deviancy towards her.
You have accepted little responsibility.” The judge also noted that a probation report indicated Tinker remains dismissive of the fact that his actions were sexually motivated.
He was further ordered to be subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and a lifelong restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim.
Throughout the proceedings, Tinker, who resides on Holt Park Approach, Adel, showed no previous criminal record, but his recent conduct has led to a significant legal and moral condemnation.
The court’s measures aim to protect the victim from further harm and to hold Tinker accountable for his disturbing behavior.
