NEIL SCOTT FROM EDENBRIDGE: SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL BUS AND TEACHING ROLES IN KENT AND WEST SUSSEX

In a disturbing series of events spanning several years, Neil Scott, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, managed to continue his criminal activities despite being on the official sex offenders' list. His criminal conduct first came to light during his tenure as a teacher, which ultimately led to his dismissal from Holmewood House, a prestigious public school located in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1986. Despite this, Scott's predatory behavior did not cease, and he spent the following four years teaching abroad, where he continued to exploit vulnerable children.

Upon his return to the United Kingdom, Scott secured employment as a bus driver. At that time, the Heritage bus company, which employed him, was not engaged in contracts involving school transportation, and as a result, his background was not subjected to thorough checks. This oversight proved to be a critical lapse in safeguarding, as the company later secured a contract to transport pupils in Crawley, West Sussex. Without conducting additional background checks, Scott was assigned directly to the school run, placing numerous children at risk.

Scott's criminal activities escalated during his time as a school bus driver. He lured several young boys, who were his passengers, to a barn located in Edenbridge, Kent. There, he committed sexual acts on the boys and even recorded them in the nude, further evidencing his predatory behavior. His pattern of abuse was not limited to his role as a bus driver; during his earlier career as a teacher, he had also assaulted boys aged around 12 at a scout hut situated within the school grounds, which ultimately led to his resignation from that position.

The full extent of Scott's misconduct was uncovered when one of his victims, now an adult, demanded that he take responsibility for the trauma inflicted upon him. This victim's insistence on justice prompted an investigation, which revealed Scott's involvement in multiple indecent assaults. In total, Scott was convicted of six counts of indecent assault, relating to both his time as a teacher and as a bus driver. His sentencing resulted in a five-year prison term, and he was subsequently placed on the Sex Offenders' Register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
